Here at DOTA tips, we are generally focusing on high skill builds and strategies for DOTA players. We had some email today from people new to DOTA who have been fighting it out on BattleNet and finding things hard.
As we all know, getting started in DOTA can be tough. It takes a long time to learn and master the game of DOTA, and we thought we would provide some tips on which hero's are best to start out with and which are the good basic items to use initially along with some DOTA newbie strategy and style play info.
Good DOTA Heros for Newbies:
- Lion
- Rhasta (Shadow Shaman)
- Dwarven Sniper- Skeleton King
These heros all have attacks and abilities that are easy to understand. The first two, Lion and Rhasta being 'Intelligence' based heroes. These guys are best 'early' game, agility based heroes such as Dwarven Sniper are best 'mid game' and finally 'strength' hero's such as Skeleton King are handy late game.
The best bit of advice for newbies in DOTA is to play 'defensively'. By this I mean, do not charge in and attack enemy heroes. Stay back, use towers and creeps for defense - ALWAYS keep creeps in front of you initially. Watch you DOTA mini map. This is critical!
Finally, try to stay with a fellow hero / ally. This keeps you safe and minimizes the chances of a 'gank'. (Gank means several enemies attacking you at once)
Now for items. There are speciality items for each class (agility, intelligence and strength) however when starting out - you should pick some basic items that will simply sustain your life and let you learn the game.
Items for Newbies:
Boots (Always handy, ensure you have them - you will need them to get away at times)
Ring of Health (A 875 cost item, returns your health constantly)
Void Stone (A 900 cost item, this regen's your mana, when combined with ring o health - you get 'perserverence')
Mithrill Hammer (Adds damage, buy a gauntlet of strength and finally cranium basher recipie to make a nice stun / damage item)
Helmet of Iron Will (Buy this and buy a mask of death afterwards. This gives you armour, regen health and some lifesteal. Very handy in battle)
Conclusion.
DOTA is a tricky game, don't get put off by hard times and early deaths. Keep yourself alive and keep learning. Stay with allies and watch them do their stuff. It won't be long till you're owning at DOTA, and you won't be a newbie anymore!

magina and soulkeeper and rhasta and scorpian king and riki mauro and king leoroid and leena and zeus and lion and pudage and at last tiny are the best heros and the easy 2 play with btw i 0wn all in dota
can't believe how thick skinned some ppl can be...
lol those arent the best characters in the game....every hero has a counter really.....and pudge depends on who you are against and your skill level.....like a good player with meepo aka geomancer is one of the most annoying things in the world or fun if you are meepo =] ..... let alone spirit breaker is insane with just a basher + sange n yasha
hahahaha plz sven by far the best hero in the game and plz u noob u do not own i could destroy u with anyone and meepo is the by far funnest hero in the game =)
hello....im so sorry for offending you all... because the best characters for beginners are...lina inverse, razor, and rylai...but i therefore conclude that each hero can be mastered by a beginner fast enough if the player has its passion to learn and play dota....
all heroes are strong and smart...
the strengt of the hero only depends on the user that commands the hero to be a godlike or a noob....
now now now...you guys have it all wrong...the best heroes in the game are bs(bloodseeker) and mortred..bs with bfly..boots of travel and sny is insanely difficult to catch/kill..mortred with a little help of roshan only needs a divine and maybe mkb..total pwnage
specky...listen. if you think bloodseeker is the best hero in the game by any means, you are a retard. So weak, i can tell you play em games cuz ive never seen a bloodseeker get half of the creep kills i do. bloodseeker is only good at level 6 running around ganking, besides that hes not better or even equal to another hero
the best hero is the venomancer.
1. create power treads, buy ring of regen, courier, and broadsword.
2. assemble helm of dominator.
3. assemble crystalys.
4. assemble buriza.
5. buy quarterstaff.
6. assemble butterfly.
7. assemble sange and yasha.
8. sell ring of regen, buy sacred relic.
9. assemble satanic
10. assemble divine rapier.
11. face roshan. if you are level 25and completed these items, roshan is no match.
"getting started in DOTA can be tough" is an understatement. There are 100+ items and recipes, many of which seem redundant. Each recipe's requirements are on other taverns, and if you don't know exactly where to look it can take a while to find them. There are 80+ heroes, which means it takes a newcomer a long time to learn to recognize the enemy heroes and know what skills they have. Dota players have their own 2-letter codes during play that nobody else understands. And to top it off, if you don't already have the map, nobody hosting on bnet will let you download it. Sorry, there is no fun in learning dota. I'd rather play ladder or other custom maps.
Forgot to mention that when your hero dies you lose gold, so noobs have no chance.
Noob talks...
... all heroes are the best heroes. Every hero has a counter so there is no *best* hero.
You guys forget about the only ever Nevermore! If your in doubt about mr ideal let me remind you about desolator and assault(the negative armor stuff)and ofcourse the natural aura.. imagine the negatives you will get facing this hero. Sorry dudes but you will Nevermore live!
...you guys forgot bout leviathan... tidehunter+some RoH=dominating! just get things that have high hp regen... forget mana and other fancy things. (make sure if you're being ganked, things don't get out of control)
lol u r all noobs who play on LAN with other noobs, or play AI
Enchantress is a very easy starting character for dota... Good range and then you can kill ppl when they try to run.. Good character when you first start and I still enjoy using her every now and again
hi guys
speak of 1-1 games
get tinker and make dagon.
get the kill in say 10- 15 seconds for almost every hero
if the hero is int you dominate............
hey guys i don't have the vedio.
situation was treant protector 1235hp
uses overgrowth l-3 on me(sandking
635hp at that pt)
used the stunning ability of sandkink and epicentre l-3 when was hold.
result treant protector dies i leave at 132hp......................
If your new in Dota, use any hero that has invisible skill. Gondar, Bone, Ricky, etc. That will help you die less times.
Learn your hotkeys, always have your finger on W to disappear.
Concentrate all your items builds on threads and Sange and Sage. You can learn more along the way, but these will help you start out.
The rest is just hours of gameplay
I think ´riki should be deleted as a character. he only ruins games and is not at all a funny hero.
For the easy played heros I think (riki for one), troll (who cant play troll and bashers and win a game?), king leroic and luna.
how ironic.. there is about as many oppnions as players. :)
ooops.
lets try it again:
"how ironic. There is about as many opinions as there are players :)"
(btw. this IS true!)
Rofl guys,if u wanna play dota, find some another page and read the help, these tips totally sucks! Btw best hero venomancer,if u could get aegis on lvl 25 sux, with veno u could get it much much much more faster-lvl 7 if well played.cya
you are all retards!!! there is no best hero in DOTA!!!All heroes is good, just if you know to play!!! Example: Bloodseeker is strongest when you start to run.If you don't notice while running that hi trow on you his ulti you will die before he catch you. And look on his damage when he use bloodrage...Just run, don't look.Bloodrage (at 1 level) is very usefully when you playing against int heroes.Hes weakness is low hit points but charging is great with blood bath...
There are no best hero in dota, tho there is some heros which is weaker than others and do not work to your satisfaction compared with other heros an example of such hero is gondar, bloodseker those heroes can ofc like all heros own but in compeditive dota it's highly unlikely that they will do their part to help your team achieve victory.
